Does Lindsay Lohan Have The Complexion For The Protection?

Lindsay Lohan Is At It Again!

In her most recent stench, Lindsay Lohan turns herself in after pleading 'no contest' to a case stemming from June 2012, involving a car crash in which she gave false information and hindered police investigation. Lindsay was charged with obstruction and wreck-less driving and sentenced to at least 5 days jail time. However, she was pardoned from such an already light sentence, provided that she attends 90 days of rehabilitation, performs community service and receives psychiatric help. Well, what's the problem then? The problem may be that this isn't Lindsay Lohan's first rodeo. And it leaves one to wonder; Does Lindsay Lohan have the complexion for the protection?

Lindsay was sentenced to rehab back in May of 2007 after a DUI charge and found cocaine. She managed to get through the entire 45 day stay but was back to her old tricks not even two weeks later, being arrested once again for the same crime. She was convicted in November 2007 to spend a day in jail, in which she didn't even spend 90 minutes of.

In 2010, Lindsay was convicted to serving a stiffer penalty, including the same 'ol rehab program but also a 90 jail stay. However, as illusive as Lindsay is, she managed to only have spent two weeks in jail due to 'overcrowding'. She was released early from her rehab bid as well, yet failed a mandatory drug test soon after, and again it was right back to rehab.

Among her wreck-less driving and narcotic binging, Lindsay was also the talk of robbery of some very high dollar items(felony-grand larceny), in which charges were never filled in neither cases. In one of the cases, the alleged stolen property just happened to reappear back into the hands of the rightful owner.

The infamous Lohan has seemed to slip through the cracks of law in her tyranny over society many times over. As many of her offenses hold heavy criminal weight, Lindsay has seemed to jump through the hurdles of the law with ease and poise. So just how serious are crimes of this stature taken? Does race play a role in convictions and acquittals? Well, as the words of legendary hip-hop artist Jay-z states: '...Men lie, Women lie...numbers don't!' So let's take a look at some statistics to see what the numbers reveal.

Statistics on Black/White Celebrity DUI Convictions

Here, we will look into the convictions of various celebrities that were involved in DUIs. This data is based on open factual records, to alleviate the notion of being bias. We will simply explore the trend, if there is one, in the type of celebrities and their corresponding convictions with regard to DUIs, while we will also just happen to take a look at the ethnic background of these celebrities.

According to given statistics on DUI convictions from 2006-2010, via totaldui.com, at least 21 celebrities were charged with DUIs. Of these 21 celebrities, 4 are Black, 1 is Hispanic, 1 Asian and the others are all White(15).

Of the 15 white celebrities, including;

  • Haley Joel Osment
  • Mel Gibson
  • Paris Hilton
  • Khloe Kardashian
  • ***Lindsay Lohan***
  • Nick Bollea
  • Keifer Sutherland
  • Mishca Barton
  • Richie Sambora
  • Shia LaBeouf
  • Heather Locklear
  • Stephanie Pratt
  • Chris Klein
  • Scott Weiland
  • Nicole Richie

only 6 of them were convicted to serving jail time. Of the 6 that were given jail sentences, only 2 Nick Bollea & Keifer Sutherland, actually served their stents, while the other 4 got off with barely a scratch.

  • Khloe Kardashian (90 jail time-released due to overcrowding, 5 day jail time-plea deal)
  • Lindsay Lohan (30 jail time-released due to overcrowding, plea deal)
  • Scott Weiland (192 hour jail time dismissed)
  • Nicole Richie (23 day sentence reduced to 4 days-actually served 82 minutes)

Of the 4 Black celebrities that were convicted of DUIs, including;

  • Carmelo Anthony
  • Craig Robinson
  • Charles Barkley
  • Mike Tyson

All four received jail sentences, but Carmelo Anthony and Craig Robinson managed to skip serving any jail time in their convictions.

Michelle Rodriguez was arrested more than once for DUI, in which she served extensive jail time for all occasions.

Daniel Dae Kim was arrested for a DUI but faced no jail time in his sentence.

So just what do the numbers show here? One may say, "well, 2 out of the 4 black celebs got off scot-free, with no jail time." While others may argue that "the majority of the white celebs not only also got off scot-free from serving jail time, but many of them didn't even receive such a sentence in the first place."

Further than that, some may argue that this isn't a black or white thing, but instead a celebrity versus the average Joe thing, where celebrities often get a walk and more leniency for similar crimes the average Joe commits and gets. This may be due to social status, fame and tons of money for the best lawyers. But what does it say about the justice system, that tons of money and fame determine if one is going to be responsible for their actions?

What Are Other Celebs Saying About This Black/White Conviction Thing?

In her discussion on 'Hot-Topics', talk show host Wendy Williams even got in on the seemingly pre(judiced) judicial system, where she read a quote from a fan that stated that Lindsay Lohan was a lost women. Wendy replied with a statement that sounded like, "Noooo! Lindsey is not a lost women...she's a White women (looks at camera with her 'how-u-do-innnng' face). And we all know how things go for white women...when it comes to the law."

NBA TV's Open Court even touched on some issues of race. During Black History Month, the Open-Court panel touched on some issues dealing with race relations and how the athletes were affected by race, given their social status as a role model, athlete and superstar. Many stated that race still held prevalence over their societal stature, where they were still treated unfairly and racially profiled when out in public. Reggie Miller was even quoted stating that he could remember times of being pulled over on the roads for DWI(Driving While Black).

Other celebrities, even feel that there is an issue when it comes to the convictions of blacks versus whites, and not just with celebrity convictions. Perhaps comedian Paul Mooney says it best, with his raunchy & honest depictions; "...see, because they have the complexion for the protection for the collection."
